i’m nervous. but also SUPER excited to go to nashville!! ready to crotchpunch.
i think.
and then i wake up and 4 am and it’s annoying. but it does make it easier to go for a run since i’m already awake… guess it’s a good thing today is the day i start training for real!
things i’ve been up to:
-working at the after school program with refugee kids (from nepal, bhutan, vietnam, and iraq). this semester we started another program at a different site with kids from just nepal and iraq. despite my original bias toward my “original” kids, i am loving this new group more and more each day that i spend with them. (don’t worry my love for the originals just keeps growing, too!)
-also working in the mornings at a dental supply company. basically i’m a secretary, and it’s awesome.
-going to fantastic concerts/events/activities including, but not limited to, ten out of tenn (met katie herzig… totally from fort collins!), dave barnes/nathan angelo, some crazy “networking” event (translation: gold diggers and creepy old men… i may or may not have been misled about this one, but it was a hilarious surprise), country line dancing(!), some great Christmas parties, and mat kearney tomorrow!
-visits from home!! my best friend kellie came at the beginning of november (so great! we basically just bummed around the city all weekend… perfect). my mom came at thanksgiving (bojangles fried chicken for thanksgiving, southern food, visit to asheville and the beautiful biltmore, and lots and lots of quality beth and kailey time. loved it!) and, just last week, an awesome one-night visit from david! (discovered some gems including la folie on tap and overwhelming amounts of other great beer at common market and the noda brewing company, and, as always, lots of laughs with my favorite big brother). visits from home are the BEST!!
-so is GOING home! it was wonderful to have a white Christmas, to see [almost] everyone that i haven’t seen in so long and i love so much, and to just be home! it was all too short and bittersweet to come back, but the fact that i was actually excited to get back to charlotte was a good sign for me :)
-a quick trip to atlanta to spend new years with my wonderful friend melanie… love her and love atlanta!
-just started going to a new church called center city. i’ve met some fantastic people there, and i think it’s where i’ll stay! praise God for that!
things i’m looking forward to/goals for this year:
-building deeper relationships with my new friends, and continually meeting new people.
-travelling around this area of the country more (back to atlanta and asheville, up to dc, tennessee in the spring, hopefully out to the beach!)
-figuring out what i’m going to do with my life when my americorps contract is up (i know it’s going to sneak up on me!)
-taking more pictures to document this time in my life (i’m failing miserably at this… sad)
-weddings! specifically larissa’s wedding in june… going home and celebrating my beautiful friend and her husband to be!
-training for another half! the nashville half marathon is april 28th… i may or may not blog about my training, because i think that helped last time. we’ll see. either way i’m doing it… i’m already registered!
-seeing what God has in store for me this year… because i’ve definitely learned that i have no idea!
and there is the list. these last 5 months have been kinda incredible, and there’s really no way i can share all that God’s doing in some bullet points. i’m sorry about my failure to update this beast… i might try to do better this year, but no promises :)
